TEXT IN GREEN ARE LINKS - CLICK ON THEM![]() Today we face a crisis of consciousness and critical thinking. Although today's information and education is increasingly available and more widespread then ever before, this has created a new problem with understanding it. The saying that "a little learning is a dangerous thing" has a really profound meaning. Knowledge is not the issue. It is the application of such knowledge and how it's learned (absorbed) that is crippling society. Alexander Popes essay on criticism, composed in 1709, compares the effect of knowledge to that of intoxicates like alcohol and drugs. Without knowing how to properly mix and use substances they can be dangerous. Truth is always in agreement with other truths. Critical thinking allows us to hear and blend together multiple truths. Critical thinking creates the judgments derived from a group of developed abilities combined together into a skill set. These set of skills produce ways of observing, analyzing, interpreting, explaining, deciding and solving problems. Critical thinking is a part of the process we use to form beliefs. Beliefs are areas in our lives that we no longer see a need to actively question. Any areas in life we fail to examine or question are potential points of blindness, deception or willful ignorance. Most people fail to understand that while blindness can be self diagnosed deception is never perceived by the deceived. In addition to that, willful ignorance is a conscious choice. “A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring: there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again.” The irony of interacting with knowledge is that the process requires engaging whatever little bit of knowledge we think we already know to get some understanding about the majority of knowledge we don't yet know. The best remedy to this method of learning comes through superficially applying the new knowledge filtering it through feedback and experiences while being consciously aware of ignorance and deception. And even though a little knowledge is dangerous; still more is better. BLINDNESS WE SEE! DECEIVED WE BE!![]() It may appear so pretty and pink but not work out as we might think. If it's too easy or comes to fast The essence of it may not last. ![]() It's from the core of what we believe and through it we can be deceived. Deception by nature fools our mind cripples our senses and leaves us blind. ![]() And to these facts we give attention there is no cure only prevention. bad information and wrong perception will simply cause us self deception. Today's society presents our world through a veneer of artificial images. On demand immediate images provide instant gratification. This is one way we plant the seeds of deception in our minds. By the time we've matured enough to decipher the real from the fake and the imaginary, our sense of the way things work has been distorted. Distortion is one of the first steps towards deception. Imitation may be called flattery but in reality it is like substituting almost for actual and similar for original. Critical thinking is the first line of defense in fighting deception. It easy to get a false impression of how life really is. So much of reality is repackaged and presented through simulation we broadcast over our virtual artificial multimedia channels. The Pictures and images are not the actual objects we are seeing, in reality they are lifelike imitations. The images on our screens may display real life, but in and of themselves they are not real. Unfortunately because they are so widespread and common among us we accept them as true representatives of reality. But in reality they are only capturing one aspect of it. The projected images in any program or broadcasts carry a connected theme that subconsciously appeals to our eyes and affects the way our minds think. The light for our bodies comes through the sight and visions of our eyes. There are canes and a multitude of aids to assist with blindness. There are teachers, instructors, psychologist and books to combat ignorance. But there is no one foolproof instrument or tool that can detect and warn of deception before it manifests itself. Deception works through appearances and feelings. Plato said the worse deception of all is self deception, but all deception ultimately involves fooling oneself. The power of deception is as strong as the snares of death. The nature of deception is such that it causes us to BELIEVE that what we embrace as truth is in reality false and what we think to be false is actually true. A little yeast will cause the entire loaf of bread to rise. Deception is multifaceted. By that we mean that anyone under the influence of deception is being deceived in more ways than one. The SPIRIT of deception comes as a by-product of indulging or accepting any lie. Deception always has a component of "willful allowance" supplied from its victims. Deception works through compromise of morals and values. All deceptions imply that we can have our cake and eat it too. Deception suggests that we can surrender a bit of our integrity at the core of our being and remain the same. Deception compromises our consciousness. To be deceived we must believe that fiction is a fact. And then embrace the lie we face till it becomes our act. We play the game to shift the blame along to someone else. But in the end as we pretend we just deceive ourselves. The word 'willful' implies that there is intent. When we aim or desire to ignore, hide or obscure something it is done on purpose. When the sun rises, if we don't want to see it, the only thing we can do about it is close or cover our eyes. Although it doesn't prevent the sun from shining it gives the impression that it does. There are many things we observe in life that are not apparent as they appear. The way life seems to be is not the way it actually functions. There is so much hidden beneath and behind what we are aware that we fail to account for in our conclusions. This is the phenomena of "incorrect correlation," commonly encountered but rarely corrected. WHY would anyone purposely decide to be and remain ignorant? The answer to that question is better answered by asking WHAT causes a person to stay ignorant. The question is not WHY but WHAT! What is willful ignorance? We all have chosen at one time or another, whether consciously or unconsciously, to remain unseeing in situations where “we could know, and should know, but don’t know because it makes us feel better not to know.” Many relationships function this way. Ignorance is a form of blindness that can be a physical, mental or spiritual condition. Many times it's simply a matter of will. ![]() It is important to properly associate and differentiate blindness, deception and ignorance. There are many similarities but there are also distinct differences. We become susceptible to blindness through deception. We are susceptible to ignorance through blindness. Most importantly we are susceptible to deception through both blindness and ignorance. There seems to be more hope for the ignorant and the blind than for the deceived. Ignorance can be combated through education. We can compensate for blindness with assistance, aids and instruments. Deception, however has a distinct dual dilemma, a catch 22. Deception by its very nature comes with a "spirit of belief" matched only by an opposite "spirit of doubt;" both of which sanctions whatever "the deceived" wants to believe. The illusion of being able to believe whatever we would like to believe has been a historical weakness in our critical thinking. Critical thinking takes work. We should practice exercising critical thinking on a daily basis and consistently measure our growth. The way we thought and functioned as a teenager never would have sustained us as working adults. Our minds and mentality grew and matured with us. Fairy tales and seasons built around fictional characters believed and embraced in the past seem silly now. We had to keep growing our thinking in line with our beliefs. As we progress through life we have come to the realization that yesterdays thinking will not be enough to sustain us or solve tomorrow's problems. Acknowledging and embracing this fact lets us know that we are continuing to grow. Be not deceived, we are not capable of fully seeing ourselves. Looking in a mirror reveals that clearly. Without seeing ourselves in a proper perspective we will most likely deceive ourselves. Sight in and of itself is susceptible to incorrectly perceived errors, we call this short sighted. Ultimately everyone has a propensity to be fooled by anyone, but we generally deceive ourselves. This is why we need the wisdom of rules to guide us and compare ourselves to. This is why even the best athletes need a coach, trainer or corner to instruct them by exposing their multiple blind spots. We must first believe to be deceived. Critical thinking tempers our beliefs in light of both faith and reality. It is our practices that put us in the paths we follow. When we practice principles that accomplish peace and mutual prosperity we will see just that. A practice is not what it says it is. A practice is what a practice does. START PRACTICING!

TEXT IN GREEN ARE LINKS - CLICK ON THEMThe power of writing (letters) is second only to the power of talking (speech). Writing has a unique feature that speech lacks in that it immortalizes words as it encapsulates its power. Words, a language of thought can be expressed visually, audibly and perhaps can transcend traditional methods. "Sometimes we actually know what someone else is thinking." Reading a mind, involves the same sequence of skills as reading a book. Mind reading is simply translating thoughts or words without sight or sound. Cavemen very likely communicated without language. The hieroglyphics in caves represented writing in its earliest form. Our history has been captured by writers through words and pictures. Words bring structure to life. All words, whether recorded on paper or etched in stone perpetuates thought and history. History is listed through the passion of literature. Writing is a natural expression of existence. Similar to any other feeling or emotion, writing is the substance of a type of energy we often underestimate. Before there was language; gestures, images and other forms of communication ruled the day. Today's audible language works through spoken words just as sign language works through visual cues. Is this why the Bible says death and life are in the power of the tongue? Communication requires working tools to function at full duplex (back and forth). The main tool needed for this are words, and words can be made to work for us or be weaponized against us. Gossip and spoken words, whether accepted or ostracized can be quickly spread without scrutiny and easily misapplied. Written words are not as intrusive; we can't hear them and they cannot be forced on us. Written words do not assault us visually as live or recorded images do with our sensory faculties. The reading process involves making a optional decision to exercise a learned skill. We can elect to be willfully blind, apathetic or informed just by reading. Written words cannot change their meaning and initially require more mental energy to absorb and understand then spoken words. Hearing does not require attentive listening, but reading always involves the mental effort of deciphering thought conveyed through text. The procedure starts with an arrangement of letters, and the words they form. The words arranged in structures called sentences form thoughts. The thoughts form a projected thesis, a comparable logical antithesis and a settled synthesis. This is how we get thought to make sense to us. Written or spoken words always mean exactly what they "do" not necessarily what they "say." Contrary to popular beliefs words can not be interpreted! Words have definitions not interpretations. Words are the tools for the interpretation of thoughts and intents. THE POWER OF WORDS MAY BE SIMPLY DESCRIBED AS: THEY ARE, WHAT THEY DO! It's their effect, especially when written, that establishes their power to connect us all together, both readers and writers. ![]() The "gift of literacy" is special! This is a form of communication that is as powerful as any direct personal contact or conversation. There are many non-verbal forms of communication that we fail to acknowledge and practice. Our survival may not depend upon reading and writing, but in this society it is a big part of our self determination. The power of the written word rivals the power of spoken words in one way, "its has the power of permanency!" It's tangible form (wherever it is and whatever it is on) sustains "its message." Words in and of themselves when arranged or grouped properly have a spiritual dimension to them. After all Jesus said the words that he spoke unto us they are spirit and they are life. Love letters are similar and have the power to affect not only the intended recipient of the letter but also everyone who reads it. We are sharing a personal romantic letter, written in the power and spirit of romance. Although it is somewhat redacted it serves as an example of the power of words contained within a letter. A well written letter has the power to alter consciousness, liberate people, heal and rebuke spirits. Just read your Bible, your constitution or your declaration of independence. The passion of love mingled with literacy has no limits. THE LETTERTHE WHITE WRITINGS CONTAINS THE LETTER. PINK PARENTHESIS ARE COMMENTS & FOOTNOTES. Dear Husband/Wife, Writing you allows me to capture the passion of my feelings in words. This is the best way of reflecting upon and retaining our intimate emotional experiences. My love often loses its patience and grows tired of waiting for my "sporadic" moments of expression. (There are too many times that our heads fail to say what our hearts put on our mind.) Suppressed words and emotions bottled up inside of me need more then a spontaneous session of intimacy to dissolve. Such yearning can only be temporarily relieved during the explosive intensity of intimate physical passion. The experiences we've exchanged and shared are mired in recollections that should never be lost! I often find them floating about and mixed-up with volumes of spoken words. How many of these precious memories can we store in our minds? (It is only what we intentionally capture that we can be sure of properly preserving.) The images seared in my memory of our bodies in perfect harmony tempt me to relive those encounters again and again. More and more I realize that it is the quality of what we produce that makes it worth remembering. My love, I'm so happy that we've discovered the value of making art rather then just appreciating it. The lingering love we make today does not compare to the shallow sensual sex of the past. (Growing and maturing is a life long all encompassing experience. We should expect it in our careers, relationships, sex lives and thinking.) Since we have learned this valuable lesson in time let's make and record our words for the world. As we grow from crude painters to artists, let's rediscover out brushes, paint and canvass in new ways both erotic and exotic. There is no limit to the beauty our bodies can capture. (Thoughts can become things when we continue to proclaim them!) While we're practicing making memories I have some ideas for a blockbuster. Do such thoughts excite you? I like the idea of using words to rekindle warm feelings. Fondling such thought arouses many delicate sensations. (The practice of proclaiming words describing any aspect of life actually assists in creating that action into life. Thoughts about feelings recreate those selfsame feelings.) I savor the ability to recall our personal experiences. Caressing words by reading them makes it easy to embrace their memories even if we get too old to do anything about them. I want to cherish and bring to remembrance every episode of mutual enjoyment. (Many of our quiet times and private conversations although lightly regarded should be fondly remembered.) The bits and pieces of dialogue mingled within the intercourse of multiple interactions have created multiple fond memories. I now can share many of these stolen intimate open eyed moments with you. Each course of our unions intercourse serves as a small part of the smorgasbord of our love. Here is a gift of those memories in words to you. (Memory initiated emotions are just as good as imagination and the next best thing to being there. Although any of us can pass on (die) all of our memories can live on.) The words in this letter will live on and revive the spirit of our union whenever we read them. Our letters can capture those awkward and sometimes difficult moments of expression so short lived in time. This is just one gesture in a series of passionate overtures we'll exchange, like celebrating "Hump Day" each Wednesday; a far better idea then waiting and just living for the weekend. No matter what our words will live on In the midst of these frantic romantic antics injected into our marriage. (There is no limit to the power of a carefully crafted letter. The passion in the writing reflects the intensity of the testimony.) PASSION - AN INTENSELY STRONG BARELY CONTROLLED EMOTIONAL FORCEPassion is nurtured through practice. The behaviors we practice work as agents that produce both the physical and emotional feelings that accompany such experiences. Intimacy and passion have no boundaries of time or place for expression. Yes, there should be respectable limits to types of public display but never restrictions on when or where they are displayed. The "how" should be appropriate for the "where" as the "what" discretely enhances the "bond of intimacy." Many couples have confined arousal, teasing, pleasing, and intercourse to the bed or strictly in the bedroom. That is not reality, that is simply imitating "Hollywood." It is our natural inclination to utilize a room designated for privacy to express intimacy but intimacy is much more then a private expression. Whether its expressed through a look, a touch, a word or a vibe, any couple can develop this quality. Intimacy goes beyond any of the physical attributes of our flesh. Foreplay and other terminologies that describe our elaborate sensual relationships are inadequate descriptions of the emotionally innate desires within us. Human beings are the only known species on the planet with the ability to turn a primordial drive for affection and sex into a beautiful act of expression that has spiritual significance (intimacy). For all other species the sex drive is an instinctive and autonomously involuntary act of proliferation. And although the same drive functions within the human experience we are able to add the charm of glamour and appeal with mystery and excitement producing the fascination of "romance" that outlives the urge to simply reproduce. The spirit of passion can easily be nourished through a letter. Whatever we are passionate about and whatever passion we have can be nurtured and fed through written words. The power of the pen can have an affair with the power of love whenever we allow it. Remember that written documents have a life of their own. As authors (parents) of "write" (letters) we are beacons (sources) of "light"(information). Once we release our children (writings and words) they are on their own. Whenever and wherever those writings are read they will show that light can shine in the power of words through a letter of love.
![]() Do we need an ark? Let's examine today's environment from the perspective of either "Chicken Little" or "Noah." By environment we mean the circumstances, objects, conditions and forces we integrated with and are surrounded by. Our environment can be represented by a bubble. Our bubble is strong! It's robust design sets it apart from the fragile bubbles we see in soap suds. The earth, the substance inside the bubble, is solid and sound. In regards to science, superstition, logic, destiny, fate, prophesy and predictions there may be a little to worry about, we have some history to corroborate that. History does not repeat itself but there are close resemblances. It appears that our current circumstances follow patterns we've previously experienced in the past. Whether this offers some consolation or encourages craziness is to be determined. We know that we are the most significant bubble of matter floating around in this solar system. Despite space exploration, none of us are moving to another planet any time soon. So we must be willing to face a realistic future despite the difficulties of the past. As long as we continue to address and resolve the problems we create within our bubble we should have consolation that it won't burst. Our stable bubble has sustained us this far and today the state of our bubble seems secure. Without it we would cease to exist like a fish outside of its bubble called water. So why do we need an Ark? Perhaps Chicken Little (Henny Penny) or Noah can enlighten us! "The sky is falling in" sounds similar to "its gonna rain." We find it very hard to believe until it happens! Is it wrong to label both Henny Penny and Noah as alarmist if That's how they're characterized? "What if you found out the sky was falling? Would you tell anyone? Would you be scared? Maybe even a little chicken?" (Disney) "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Matthew 24) Our environmental crisis goes way beyond pollution or pestilence. Maybe the weather is a sign of our growing crisis of consciousness. OBVIOUS - predictable self evident apparent signs lacking subletyFew people realize that the earth is the only planet in our solar system with a life sustaining atmosphere. How strong is our atmosphere? Is it fragile and vulnerable or tough and resilient? Is it possible for us to trash a whole planet? Or will the bubble spew us out first? Fortunately for us earths gravity is strong enough to hold it's atmosphere in place despite us polluting it. Our physical atmosphere is composed of gases we commonly call air. In our atmosphere, nitrogen and oxygen make up 99% of the gases. The remaining 1% of gases in the bubble are mostly argon then carbon dioxide followed by other trace elements. The seemingly minuscule amounts of gases within the remaining 1% of the atmosphere are still important. Carbon dioxide in chemistry, is similar to a "keystone species" in nature, and as such is highly significant even in small amounts. Our bubble has endured for millions of years and apparently is so resilient that despite all of the internal turmoil somehow it goes back into balance. Our greatest concern is not about bursting the bubble it is about maintaining the balance within the bubble. Messing with the atmospheric balance inside of a bubble does not come without consequence. Although a person smoking cigarettes absorbs the bulk of the carcinogens, we've learned that the second hand smoke affects everyone no matter how they are exposed to it. "Climate is what we affect but weather is what we get." One bad apple can eventually spoil the whole bunch just as bad company can corrupt good manners. Our short memories consistently betray us. Perhaps it's because of the overwhelming number of diversions and distractions we face today. Everyone seems to have forgotten about the SARS pandemic we all experienced back in 2003. The 2003 outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) shocked the world as it spread swiftly from continent to continent, resulting in more than 8,000 infections. The "process of contamination" infects the company we keep, the places we frequent along with what we watch, listen to and think. True Contamination goes beyond guilt by association or birds of a feather flocking together. We know that association breeds assimilation and that appropriation is simply a subtle form of contamination. "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them." (Genesis 6) This is a depiction of a contamination so thorough that everything had to be destroyed. Is it possible that we are headed in that direction? If there were such a thing as mermaids; with all the pollution we put into the oceans, by now we would have killed them off. In addition to balancing and not bursting the bubble, it is important not to contaminate the bubble. A contaminate is a substance of poisonous or polluting blight that infests. Some cases of contamination require isolation or quarantine others cannot be fixed. Contaminated soil is usually removed and replaced because it affects everything in it and on it. Consciousness can be contaminated by thought, conversation and actions. Consciousness is connected to spirit. Spirit may be defined as the intangible part of a person that affects emotions and shapes character. Why do we acknowledge invisible forces like vibes, mojo, momentum, and energy in sports and competition but not in every day life? Why limit spirit only to church and other religious events? There is spirit in business and government that affects us all. Contaminated spirits can move invisibly. It is the standards of our society that keep these spirits civil, limited or contained when they express themselves. Once a mind is contaminated it becomes increasingly easier to ignore the obvious. Like an alcoholic or drug addict the ability to see clearly continues to diminish with the increase of the habit. There is a quote that E.F. Schumacher wrote in his guide for the perplexed, “everything can be seen directly except the eye through which we see.” We are blind to unknowns in plain view by the unconscious biases all of us fall victim to. This is one form of mind contamination. Sometimes we put our brains at rest and fail to see the obvious. With open eyes we are not blind. Our biases just trick our minds. The tale of Chicken Little and the story of Noah ended successfully. Both saved the earth by their actions but accomplished it differently. We all have chosen at one time or another, whether consciously or unconsciously, to remain unseeing in situations where “we could know, and should know, but don’t know because it makes us feel better not to know.” Many relationships function this way. Blindness can be a physical, mental or spiritual condition. Many times it's simply a matter of will. UNCONSCIOUS - insensibly unaware & unable to mobilize proper thought![]() Are we chickens? Wouldn't we rather be wrong? What policy do we create to deal with alarmist? Denial is not a policy! Do we err on the side of caution? How should we regard these warnings? Warnings are unneeded if they're unheeded. Although we haven't considered "The Boy That Cried Wolf," another story of an alarmist, The same scenario occurred. Eventually the wolf did show up but nobody believed him. Between Henny Penny, Noah and the boy crying wolf we have a dilemma of will. Ark building is a time consuming expensive project. It took Noah over fifty years to build his ark. There is an art to ark building and everybody cannot fit into one ark. Should such a problem be ignored? Or is this another case of willful blindness. Willful blindness is an epidemic in our society. Willful blindness is a legal concept. Willful blindness differs from ignorance. The law deems deliberate ignorance and positive knowledge to be equally culpable. To act 'knowingly', therefore, is not necessarily to act only with positive knowledge, but also to act with awareness of the high probability of the fact in question... 'knowledge is established if a person is aware of a high probability of its existence, unless he actually believes that it does not exist. Willful blindness, ignorance of the law, willful ignorance, contrived ignorance or nelsonian knowledge is no excuse in criminal matters! What about in matters of mutual concern. Some say that ignorance is bliss but in reality ignorance is blank. We need ark builders not necessarily the carpenter types but the courageous type whose example we can mark and follow. Ark builders are more interested in dealing with climate change more than pointing the finger at the drivers of it. These are the people who will call a spade a spade even at their own expense. These are the people willing to be wrong so that truth can be right. These ark builders are neither partisan nor do they side with a person or party. These ark builders put practices and policies in front of peoples personalities or politics. These are the people who define what a thing is by what it does. The ark sets the standards for thought and consciousness. The substance of the Ark is a composition of admonitions and warnings heralded by its builders. It is a figurative symbol we must constantly work on; not only for our sake but for the good of the planet. Whether it appears that the "sky is falling{" or "it's gonna rain" someone has to "cry wolf." Ark builders call climate change what it is, not a hoax. In that we have organizations like THE PENTAGON and THE UNITED NATIONS and THE NATIONAL OCEANIC & ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION and POLITICO saying the same thing must give it some credibility. After 13 agencies issued a National Climate Assessment warning that the intensifying effects of climate change pose a threat to the United States nothing has been done. |
