![]() We are all flawed. We are shaped by our inner genetic predisposition and conceived in an imperfect world. The deck is stacked against us at birth. We are thrust into an arena with multiple gladiators, fighting multiple battles, for many reasons on multiple fronts. We are compelled to form alliances, join other battles while simultaneously fighting a life long war of our own. Yes, there are rules for engagement and standards set by society, but not strictly enforced. It is a corrupt honor system that uses partisanship to sporadically enforce compliance. Because it is biased, many of us have compromised our integrity to fit into the system. Some of the pressures we face in life work against our standards of morality. We are defined by the standards we choose to follow in life. Each of us must form and adopt a standard and stand on it. Every individual must choose to work in, on, with, by, for or against the system. If we do not stand for something we are likely to fall for anything. A standard reflects not only what we do but how we do it. Sometimes it is easier to work on (fix) what we have then it is to replace it. People want the true brand, the genuine article and the real deal. Who we are, and what we are "at best" may be expressed as "a multitude of flaws stitched together by good intentions." At best we can barely be trusted. Building trust is like banking. Trust is the currency (money) we deposit in our accounts. It is a lifelong activity of creating "accountability" that we deposit into and withdraw from. It is significant that these trust accounts are maintained in the memories (mind banks) of the people and institutions we interact with. As we create these accounts we must be aware of our built-in "flaw factor." It is always intuitively or explicitly expressed within our conversations (the fine print). We have "two tellers" (spokesmen) to deal with every type of transaction on all of our accounts. These two tellers titled "honesty" and "integrity" keep up with our verbal balances. Both of these tellers, depending upon the contract, work differently with our deposits and withdrawals. We find them affiliated with all of our accounts even though they are established and maintained individually. Though closely related, honesty and integrity maintain accounts differently. We can exercise honesty without integrity but cannot perform with integrity outside of honesty. Facing and acknowledging the truth about ourselves is one of our biggest obstacles. We have met the enemy and he is us! We need to maintain our house with honesty and keep integrity in the midst of all our affairs. At times we may find ourselves in a conflict between what we believe and what we know. Sometime we are told to just have faith, but may not know where or how to apply it. There is a subtle but unique difference between knowing and believing. Knowing something relates to a learned or experienced actuality easily proven by the fact of its existence. It is reality in it's truest, simplest, "in your face" form. Believing something does not require physical evidence or experience. Beliefs take priority over knowledge and can be embraced and held correctly or accepted and applied errantly. A belief can hold its ground and withstand any scrutiny regardless of its truth or accuracy. Unfortunately we all harbor our own set of personal erroneous beliefs. Erroneous beliefs seem to fall under two main categories. There are delusional beliefs and overvalued beliefs. Such beliefs are regarded as true and so we easily embraced them as fact. While one is considered a disorder the other may be termed as a gross error in judgement. Beliefs become obstacles when our personal judgement and logic become so corrupted that we confuse fiction with fact. Once we add it into our knowledge base as a belief it takes a primary position of priority over any new, different or objective information. A belief intrusively usurps its place and becomes the predominate premise determining what we think we know. This is where deception begins and how delusions are constructed. A delusion is constructed in a manner that works to maintain a false belief in spite of any compelling contrary evidence. ![]() At sometime or another delusional thinking will influence all our judgement's. We are all susceptible to this scenario. No one is exempt. Error is inevitable. Here are two practical steps anyone can take to mitigate this cycle. The first step is to identify wrong thought. This can be difficult to do if honesty and integrity are not functioning as our primary source of influence. Finding ourselves may not be something we know how to do. We do know that from time to time we can loose track of where we are and how we got to here. But our blinded minds can inhibit insight and hamper the ability to see that clearly. This is a disease where the symptoms directly conflict with the solution. The remedy focuses on and directly confronts beliefs that we are always ready to defend. Targeting these psychological and emotional strongholds is not an easy thing to do. The act of interrupting such well defended mental maladies may result in the manifestation of physical sickness. Any abrupt disruption of thought processes can create a form of stress that may trigger a variety of illnesses. The stress we impose upon ourselves can only be measured by the damage it inflicts upon our bodies and spirit. The damage inflicted becomes evident over time. It is critical to "nip it in the bud" and catch these cancerous thoughts during their incubation period before they take control and occupy strongholds in our minds. Early intervention usually mitigates the damage that has already been done. Because a remedial solution is not the best practice for this type of problem. This is why a proactive approach is as important as addressing inaccurate thought. Learning and practicing preventative policies must be a part of our plan, because most the damage that occurs after false beliefs take root may never be undone. Erroneous beliefs have a life of their own and can spread like a virus. This not only affects the carrier but also everyone that carrier comes in contact with. The social stress of our beliefs and values upon anyone has an indirect effect upon everyone. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks but that is not true. As long as the instructor is patient and the dog is willing, there is hope. Learning a new skill in a new way may be difficult initially but not impossible. Likewise when we get set in our ways and become close minded the same difficulties beset us. Questioning everything begins with questioning ourselves first. It makes sense and it's logical to believe that if we were born in China we would speak one of their many languages and think differently about life. Thinking about thinking is not a normal thought. Our greatest struggles are within ourselves not with others. The more we exchange, share and communicate with others, the better our thinking perspectives can broaden. The more we seek for clarity, the clearer we will see ourselves and others. The information age offers us the opportunity to review, remove and refine our thinking and beliefs if we choose to. Life is progressive. It is patently foolish to keep believing things strictly based upon tradition or appearance. This is a classic example of abductive or inductive logic being misconstrued as conclusive deductive logic. We may deduce that the characters and pictures on our television screens are generated from inside of the set. We know that this is not true, but it does appear to be so. Based on the fact that when we turn our television on sounds and images come out of it, that belief makes logical sense. Although such a conclusion follows logic it is still incorrect. The value of truth comes at the cost of not being right. A belief can make us right but the truth will make us free. The cost of correctness comes at our own expense. Those of us willing to pay the price are also willing to sacrifice. We who are willing to continually subordinate our egos and humble our opinions down to the level of a "preference" will discover the power and ability to understand others. We know that "an error doesn't become a mistake until we refuse to correct it."

![]() Life and death can be described as two parts of one experience. One cannot be experienced without the expectation of the other. Unfortunately many of us see life as a journey and death as a destination, but this is inaccurate. Regardless of how this may seem to be, it is not true. An understanding of homeostasis clearly illustrates that life's goal is to always move towards equilibrium among interdependent environmental elements. Simply put life syncs with and balances itself with other life. This is the way the universe operates. Death is not the end of life, rather an extension of it. In reality we all must admit that life is hard and death is easy. When life starts struggles begin. When someone passes their struggles end and pass along with them. It is the loved ones left behind that seem to struggle and take it hard. Their continued emotional mourning and suffering often postpones the future mention and celebration of the deceased. When the anguish associated with this existence ends for "the deceased" why do we continue "it" by adding "it" to ours? We must acknowledge that as familiar as we are with death, in its common occurrence, we only have a limited understanding of the phenomena. It is easy to embrace beliefs and superstitions that lack logic when we lack understanding. When we experience things that are difficult to accept or explain it is normal to create theories that account for them even if they do not make sense. Superstitious practices are based upon logical conclusions regardless of their accuracy. Traditionally we fear death and regard passing as a difficult experience and so we do everything possible to postpone the inevitable. We fear the day of reckoning and dread the event. We expect that time to be associated with sorrow and mourning. We learned when to mourn from observing others mourning. Thinking that death is always associated with sadness became a belief. Any traditional belief can become an accepted practice if emotionally embraced. Remember, emotions are as contagious as cold germs and fear is like a flu. Memories hold the magic of any moment we choose. They have a life of their own. Memories live through "lingering on." We can either decide to bottle them up or allow them to enrich us. When we say that "we don't want to think about it." It may mean that we have yet to create fond memories of the person or experience. Grief is an experience that is usually expressed in direct proportion to the amount of love invested. Suppressing the mention and memories of anyone denies us the opportunity to feel, experience and relive the best moments of the past, even if they are only lessons. The past is relived in the present through (M.I.E.) memory initiated emotions. No matter how difficult life previously has been it is never to late to make any previous experience a pleasant one in some way or another. Regrets only offer us the wrong reasons to remember. By reworking our memories it allows us to imagine things in ways that are comforting even if they were not so. Reliving any moment in time in our minds and making it better the second time around is one of the most powerful abilities we have. It is common for a perspective to change when viewed from a new present mindset as opposed to an old past feeling. How we feel about history affects how we operate in the present and what we expect in the future. How we feel about and process difficult events over time is an indication of our emotional intelligence or E.Q. ![]() How do we get through the death experience and do we ever get over it? Can we ever be free of guilt, remorse or regret after such an event? Is it wrong to succumb to the seduction of depression? There are no absolute answers to these questions. There is no shortcut through or road around grief. We can package and store it or simply ignore it but eventually we will have to face it. Grief is a process and without grief we'll never obtain relief. However there is relief through remembrance with renewal for our soul if we choose to be free from sadness. Freedom is a state of liberty and power characterized by the absence of restraints. Besides having and maintaining multiple close knit relationships our social circle must cherish and embrace the memories of one another. Closely examining and rearranging the letters in the word "RELIEF" reveals "Re" as in renewal and LIFE resulting in RE-LIFE. It is written, even if not practiced in Christianity, that death is not final. If as Christians we cannot look forward to relief when a love ones passes, we certainly of all people are most miserable. (1 Corinthians 15:19) The problem we have in dealing with people "passing" is that we have the wrong definition of what "passing" means. We have to understand that we are passengers "passing along" as we "pass through" and continue to "pass out." We like to think when people die (pass) that they "passed away" or "passed on." What do we think "passed away" implies? Away, "away where?" "Passed on"? On, "on to what?" The reality is that we're all "passing along," "passing by" multiple places and experiences as we "pass over" to the next one. Our bodies were never designed to keep this same form forever. We are simply the occupants/passengers of our present body on the way to another. Isn't this the teachings of 1 Corinthians the 15th chapter? So why do we feel so bad when others pass before us? Death is defined as the permanent cessation of an organism. But it does not kill the evidence, essence or effect imparted which continues to impact us as long as we give it life. In reality "DEATH" as many define it does not exist. There is no such thing as a final ultimate end to existence. The fabric of reality has a lot more depth and layers to it then we normally acknowledge. The spirit of water, the energy of thought and the harmony of existence are intangible forces that exist in perpetuity. Maybe this is why we see signs and feel the presence of loved ones who passed long ago. We can acknowledge or deny spiritual manifestations but they do exist. It's like germs. Just because we couldn't see them didn't mean they were not there. Think about all of the avoidable deaths from infections caused by the ignorance of doctors. Think of all of the comfort and consolation overlooked, ignored or missed by the ignorance of those left behind. Yes they've moved on and passed through leaving us behind. We probably should be crying over having to catch up to them! Existence itself is perpetual. Whatever "mark" we make is permanent! We cannot help but leave the evidence of our existence. That evidence is in fact the essence of life that lives on in our memories forever. Memories are precious if we celebrate and regard them as such! Death can be better defined as a separator and memories described as an assembler. There is energy inside memories like packets of data inside our computers. We simply need to open the programs and execute their code. Life goes on. Celebrate the life rather then morn the death. Let's Continue Renewal Through Celebration and Remembering!
"R.I.D.E." IS TODAY'S acRONYM for RespondING initiatING doING & enjoyING.![]() Does anyone recall their first time riding on a roller coaster? How many of us kept our eyes open during the first big drop? It is quite natural to close our eyes or turn our heads when experiencing something visually challenging. This sensation is tied to fear. We experience much of our lives through our five sensory faculties. Whenever any of our senses are not engaged we diminish the effects of that event. All of our senses are interactive and somewhat interdependent. Our sense of taste and smell are intricately connected. Try eating with a head cold and see how the food tastes. The connection between hearing and seeing is just as interesting. We tend to locate a sound with our ears and then seemingly focus on it with our eyes. Our auditory and visual relationship extends into our overall perception of the world we live in. Our perceptual system has a democratic aspect to it. For every stimulus "each sense" adds its "two cents" into a combined "pot." A decision is then made from the consensuses of all the inputs. This is unlike the blind men individually touching various parts of an elephant and making separate deductions; comparing it to a wall, a snake or a tree. It's more like each of our senses gets to vote on determining (electing) what all the senses are encountering. This is the way the r.i.d.e. works. There is a spiritually connected aspect to this as well but we will focus mainly on the comorbidity of the intellectual and psychological aspects in this post. ![]() All senses affect one another in some way. This is believed to be mediated by the working memory. It is assumed that there is a subtype of sensory memory for each of the five major senses (touch, taste, sight, hearing, and smell). The sensory memory for visual stimuli is called iconic, for aural stimuli it is called echoic, and for touch, haptic. The sense of Smell may be even more intimately connected due to the location where smell is processed. The advantage of having this type of memory system allows for adjustments from ambiguity. When information from one sense is confusing, another sense can step in and clarify or ratify the perception. Most of us understand that smell affects taste and similarly sound affects vision. Simply consider the connections between the auditory, echoic and visual portions of our brain. Then think of the possibilities of erroneous conclusions if this system is compromised. There is far more going on between our sensory and intellectual faculties. Understanding this will assist us on the r.i.d.e. All Feelings have a meaning. Understanding the meanings of our feelings whether they originate from physical pain, emotional trauma, intuitive senses or spiritual perception is paramount in best utilizing our gift of feelings. Our r.i.d.e. (journey) through life is composed of voices and choices. We are subjected to experiences that influence both our thinking and behavior. Our "relationship with" or "response to" events shape us. This is the way the r.i.d.e. works. The meaning of circumstances is where we practice exercising our senses. If we fail to use all the senses available to us we deprive ourselves of the full benefit, lesson or message within that circumstance. Imagine keeping your eyes closed, after climbing a mountain peak, and missing the breathtaking view, due to a fear of heights. Believe it or not many of us are traveling through life exactly like that. Many of us have developed a distorted interpretation of our own feelings. Misinterpreting the meaning of our feelings generally comes from the failure to realize that our feelings "have feelings" and that our mind(s) are not exclusively located in the head where the brain is. Most parts of our body have a mind of their own. To get the full effect out of what life has to offer us we must learn how to respond to what life has already given us. Re-spond-ing to life is like participating in a game of basketball. One of the core principles governing our r.i.d.e. is the fact that we do not play alone, life is a team sport but it is not a competition. The number of points that we score is not as important, as the effort we take to continue scoring. It's not about winning, it's about participating at the highest level we are capable of. Competition is not why we participate. Responding is how we connect ourselves into life's harmony. Responding is how we answer life. We are responsible to know the rules of the road we r.i.d.e. on. Whether we know them or not they are at work. It is how we embrace the rules and apply the laws of traveling that determines the ease or difficulty of our journey. These principles may not follow ordinary logic or typical reasoning as they are spiritual in nature but tangible in manifestation. When we exercise our senses in synchronization with life we elicit harmony. When we exercise our senses contentiously we spawn competitive divisions. Our senses develop in light of what we determine to follow as true or false. When we embrace and believe lies we expose our senses to delusional logic. When we seek and desire truth our senses orient themselves towards finding and practicing it. We then become more sensitive to the mondegreens created by both ourselves and society. Mishearing misinterpreting and misunderstanding is no excuse for missing out! The main factor to consider is that we eventually become a part of what we believe and practice whether it is accurate or not. When we are taught wrong we SEE wrong. We learn wrong as right, false as correct and down as up that's how we "legitimately" SEE it . Once thought is constructed, our interactions function around those teachings and beliefs, we SEE all of our responses through the lenses of that construct. Our learned responses are a by-product of how we see the world! Initiating is the opposite of just responding to stimuli. We are, or can become, the stimulus when we choose to initiate effects by adding our energy or effort to life. Right next to enjoying the creature comforts and creations that are available to us is the ability to customize and create our own. Initiating is the start up, formation and creation of something tangible from anything (thought energy) intangible. It's not about creating something from nothing. We are simply converting one form of (energy) matter into another; just as initiating "heat" converts water's form from a solid ice, to a liquid drink or gaseous steam. As we initiate responses (in reality every response is an initiation and every initiation a response) we in effect take control of and alter the destiny of ourselves and everything else we are in contact with. Many actions and activities are started (initiated) by one party and followed up (continued) by another. Many discoveries and inventions share this characteristic. The next part of the r.i.d.e. is working with whatever we create. When an idea takes form its even more exciting to see it working and work it. What we do with what we make is a part of "how" we are! Doing is the way we "practice" participating in life. What we do is essentially the expression of "what" we are. The old saying that talk is cheap only applies when action does not follow words. There is a price to be paid for every expression of energy. The cost of a thought is paid for with and by an idea. The cost of an idea is paid for by a plan. The cost of a plan is paid for by performing it (doing). What we do and how we practice any craft along the r.i.d.e. is paid for throughout the journey. This is called paying dues. "The law of process" works through practice over time where dues are paid through perseverance. We must Recognize that everything we do individually has an effect upon everything else that happens collectively. The r.i.d.e. takes place on a road shared by everyone and everything. This is where anyone can project their influences while perfecting their craft through practicing. Enjoying all of the experiences of the r.i.d.e. requires an understanding of the purpose for riding. Different people ride for different reasons but we all must ride one way or another. The key to enjoying the ride is to concentrate on riding without losing focus on the destination. The destination is not a goal but one of many goals along this unlimited journey. The joy is in the journey. The thrill is in the chase. The fun is in the pursuit. Our blueprint for life is formed by the way we perceive life to be. Many of us take ourselves and life itself too seriously. Some of us have our priorities out of order while some others fail to take life seriously at all. The way we feel about things determines how much we enjoy them. We now know how the senses that interpret and convert our experiences into feelings and thought work. It's up to us now to take a fresh look and redefine how we choose to enjoy and "experience" this r.i.d.e.
