![]() The world is and has always been one large interconnected community. Although we've been separated by oceans, languages, ethnicity, and nationalities the world community continues to merge, converge and consolidate. Any successful community works cooperatively and unites through a sense of shared consciousness. Our advancements in communications, commerce, travel and technology is making this fact painfully apparent. Whoever or whatever we leave out, hold back, neglect or ignore will affect us all. This is the new age of global consciousness transmitted by technology and fostered by an awakened spiritual consciousness. Consciousness is created by thoughts we think, allow, accept and give expression to. Communal consciousness is a shared state of sensibilities shared by both individual and collective minds. States of consciousness spawn attitudes which are eventually expressed as actions. Once a thought or a way of thinking is acknowledged and adopted communally it takes on a life of its own. The same thought accepted collectively may be interpreted differently when processed individually. It may be adopted as a slogan and become slang overnight. These coined phrases and sayings tend to morph into banal unoriginal cliches that influence and infiltrate our working vocabulary as beliefs of thought. The act of agreement with a concept or premise at any level can constitute enough energy of thought to perpetuate and apply it in unknown ways. "Speed kills," is a common expression interpreted in multiple ways. For distance runners it means that focusing on speed to much will cause them to miss out on their endurance work and thus kill their goal. For sprinters and other sports it can indicate that speed kills the competition. We are speeding up as a species! Through the acknowledging and understanding the application of Moore's and Metcalfe's laws we can gain a better insight on this subject. We have been and are now evolving and experiencing unprecedented growth on a global scale. The greatest challenge we face is recognizing that the future is here NOW! We have coalesced into an irreversible state of interdependence, it must be acknowledged. If we continue to think and act independently we will kick against the pricks, piss against the wind and whittle towards ourselves inflicting unnecessary scars. The lessons of past history must be applied from a correct perspective to have an impact or meaning applicable to today. We are increasingly becoming unable to use yesterdays thinking and logic to deal with the dynamics of our current transition. Yesterdays premises and tools are quickly becoming obsolete in today's world. Traditional practices in government, economics, medicine and religion have and are becoming outdated. For the first time in history we have a world wide inclusive and open forum accessible to anyone willing to participate in it. We are experiencing systemic transitions and change. We must expand in consciousness to understand this new phenomena. There is a need to re-think and continually redefine what is acceptable, appropriate, or equal. We must practice separating behaviors from the vessels the behaviors are expressed through. We should not be against our leaders personally, but we can be against their policies. We are all expected to pass through failures on the journey to success. Remember practices evolve with advancement but principles are applicable throughout time. There are now multiple new avenues of expression available to almost every individual occupant of the planet. Private feelings and grievances can now reach multiple public forums. Not only can everyone can have a voice, but they can also make that voice to be heard. We are not advocating the limiting of free speech, but we are promoting a higher standard of practice from our leaders. History is replete with multiple examples and attempts to suppress contrary expressions. More importantly we must recognize the working principles behind our practices. "Be not deceived: bad communications corrupt good manners." There is no controversy or contradictions in that scripture. Read it for yourself! (1 Corinthians 15:33) We must refute the idea, doctrine or belief in the premise that some things are just meant to be. This is not what predestination means. More then ever before our predictive destiny is in our own hands. We increasingly cause whatever effects we experience. Our environments are the external manifestation of our thinking and imagination. When bad manners, rude behavior and retaliation are made fashionable by leaders; expect both followers and op-posers to imitate it. Similar to contagious yawning is the phenomena of social mimicking and posturing. Many time its effects are unseen or unrecognized in our social interactions. It is important that we guard the appearance of our actions. Our children are watching. If it seems to be, even if its not, to the untrained eye, it is. The very appearance of intolerance, arrogance and superiority fosters that consciousness in our kids. No wonder we are experiencing an epidemic of bullying. We are all culpable in dictating the consciousness of our culture. As free moral agents, the one thing we have control over is our minds and thoughts. We are in a battle against the overwhelming proliferation of images through multiple streams of media. Yes it is true, bad news travels fast; It captures our attention and consumes our consciousness. It would appear that we have more of an appetite for bad news then good news, but that's not true. It is simply that our nature and culture has been fed a addictive diet caught up in focusing on controversy, gossip or violence. We must demand that our media channels take on the mandate of spreading the gospel (good news) of humanities love for one another at the same level they depict humanities inhumanity towards one another. Freedom of speech allows individual expression. When any silent nonviolent protest is expressed we should take note of it not offense at it. Would people prefer that protesters revert to riots and destroying property? Calling attention to our concerns is a right that should never be suppressed or condemned. Our intentions, words and deeds are just like seeds. The thinking process plants the seeds which yields the fruit of thought. Yes thinking produces thought. Thinking about thinking is something we rarely think about. Regardless of our objectives thinking seeds the soil (environment) that we operate in. Thinking plants, words water and deeds are the fruit. A rough layman's analysis of the process may be as follows: Thinking is an ongoing activity that creates an inner dialogue which conceives thought and expresses them through the language of words, feelings and actions. Although we consider this activity to be centered inside our brain, thinking is a collaborative communication process with our bodies, environment, other people and accepted thought. Another way to describe (not define) thinking may be: Thinking is the act of connecting formed thought that can creatively adapt to the critical scrutiny of truth as we evolve and discover more and more of it. Thinking is energy, spirit, and life. Thinking is a force. Thinking spawns thought that conceives more thinking. Discovering, questioning and wondering are fundamental components of thinking. Thinking is expansive and dynamic. Thinking challenges beliefs. Thinking, right or wrong, must be shared to affect or influence other thinking creating thought. Actions also birth thought. Thought is not necessarily processed the same way among different thinkers. Thought has its own life span, it is alive. Thought has a mind of its own. Thought is contagious. Thought has to be controlled by each individual thinker. Thought can be weaponized. Thought is a seed. It is the duty of all thinkers to relate thought responsibly. We have power to determine the standards of human discourse and interactions. We control the posture of our politicians. As long as we accept mud slinging and name calling we condone it. Let's examine and debate the issues with civility not hostility. We must hold one another responsible for the thoughts we plant in others. Contagious consciousness, like yawning, works invisibly but manifests visible and actionable results. Trafficking thought is an age old method of inciting mutual mentality. Whether we accept it or not our individual actions have the propensity for global effects. It is time to come to the realization that we do not exist independently. The new interdependent world is here. During this time of elevated consciousness, as participants in the circle of life, we must be more and more careful not to corrupt the sphere. Now that we know how to affect the effects of influence, lets make the world a better place.
